Hi ev.eryone,
I am going to say something that people I have told this to find hard to believe.
If I were able to rewind my life back to the time before I was diagnosed with prostate cancer and could be offered a choice of a life without cancer or one with it, I would chose the one with it. You may think I am being very foolish to make a statement like this, but let me explain my reasons for saying this.
I used to be a fairly shy person who was not good at talking to people I had never met before. For some reason, during my radiotherapy treatment I changed overnight, just like someone had thrown a hidden switch, thats the only way I can describe it. I am now a lot more outgoing and can hold a conversation with total strangers. I have joined various charities and groups, something I would never have dreamed of doing pre-cancer. I have always enjoyed the simple things in life like hearing birds singing, children laughing, seeing beautiful sunrises/sunsets but my appreciation level has increased dramatically. Last year I even gave a talk to 140 people about my cancer, and I have to admit I enjoyed doing it. Pre-cancer I would never have contemplated doing this. I believe I am now a better person who is more understanding and caring about other peoples problems. In fact, although I belive I have always been a happy person, I have to say I am enjoying life more than ever before.
One last thing, as I have mentioned in another thread on here, although I have lost several close family members to cancer, and even though their loss hit me very hard, I am now able to use that painful experiance to try and help others. I have always belived that out of something bad, something good will emerge and this is exactly what has happened to me. I often say, we all have it in us to use or share our experinces, both good and bad to amke other peoples cancer journey a little easier. A few kind well chosen words can often make a big difference to someone.
Thank you for reading this and I hope you understand what I've writen, Rainbow.
