Hi everyone,
When I was having my 37 radiotherapy treatments, I got talking to other patients. At first it was just mostly idle chit chat but as the days went by and we got to know each other better, I becoame aware of how just by talking to each other we were able to help each other. On of the patients and his wife admitted to me that they were quite concerned as his PSA was 35 which is quite high. I was able to tell them not to worry too much as mine had been 70 when diagnosed but with just the hormone therapy, had come right down to 3.18 at the start of my radiotherapy. We guys also swapped stories about "our hot flushes" which are a side effect of hormone therapy. They told me dont expect any sympathy from your wife and they were right. All I got was, "Well, now you know what us women have to put up with". For three days, I was transfered to another waiting area which was situated in a long corrider. Not one single person spoke to anyone and I found people even avoided eye contact. I hated it for there was such a bad atmosphire Others who also had to go there also found the same thing. I was so pleased to get back to the other waiting area and my other group of friends. I was once again able to talk and I found that not only did time pass more quickly but it was so much more pleasant.
So I really appreciated the value of talking. It is also why I value forums like this where we can go to talk with others affected by cancer.
Take care everyone, Rainbow.
