Hi everyone,
Statistics published tell us 1 in every 3 people will be affected by cancer at some time in their life, and the predictions are that this will increase to 1 in every 2 by about. I dont want to frighten people but I find these statistics quite shocking.
But these figures only relate to cancer patients and take no count of the family members and friends who will also be affected by the fears and worries that a diagnosis of cancer causes. I feel there can't be many people who dont know someone who is or has been affected by cancer. The good thing is that Cancer Research tell us survival rates are improving all the time, and 50% of patient now survive, which is a big improvement. I feel cofident that these figure will continue to improve, as there are so many new things being learnt as each month goes by. Indeed one research scientist recently said, "It's an exiciting place to be at the moment as so many breakthroughs are happening in cancer research".
But while a lot of attention is being focused on research and on the patients, and rightly so, there are a whole load of people who have a loved one suffering from this evil disease, and who are in my humble opinion, the forgotten victims of cancer. That is why CANCERVIVE is so needed, for the families and friends need help just as much as the cancer patient. The emotional toll it take on them places a huge burden on them, and all to often they feel they have no one to turn to. British Telecombe ran a very sucessful advertising campaign many years ago called, "It helps to talk". This is so true when cancer is involved, for talking to someone who understands what it's like allows us the release those pent up feelings of anger, frustration and worry which is all part of the rollercoaster ride that is cancer. So if you know anyone who this applies to, please point them towards our charity. Thank you for reading this, Woodworm
