Hi Everyone,
Cancer has yet again hit my family. In the last few years, I have lost my mother, grandmother and an aunt all to breast cancer, plus my mother in law died from lung cancer and then five years ago I was myself diagnosed with prostate cancer. In addition to all this, I have lost several close friends to this evil disease.
Now cancer has reared its ugly head again as my brother in law has recently been diagnosed with prostate cancer. I thought my PSA was high at 70 when diagnosed but his was 543. Unfortunately in his case the cancer has escaped from the prostate and it has spread to his bones, mainly in his hip but also in his arm, spine and ribs. The cancer in his hip, combined with the fact he has arthritis, means he was offered a hip replacement but the operation has been cancelled three times now. As you can imagine both he and his wife are feeling very stressed as a result so really hoping it will not be cancelled again.
He has been on hormone therapy since shortly after his diagnosis and his PSA has come right down. But until he has had this operation and recovered from it, he can not start his course of radiotherapy, which will not only target the prostate but also the areas of bone infected with the cancer.
Knowing how in my case, hormone therapy coupled together with the radiotherapy acchieved a tremendous result for me, I really do feel for him and hope when at last he is able to have his 37 radiotherapy treatments his PSA will drop even further.
Just wondered if any one reading this, has experianced this much cancer in their families. The sooner medical science finds a cure for this disease the better for too many people experiance the pain of losing loved ones is so hard to take. Wishing everyone who has experiance of cancer all the best, Rainbow.
