Hi,
I just wanted to say that after my first visit to my doctor to the time I was diagnosed with prostate cancer, how slowly time seemed to go. Most appointments were two to three weeks apart but each week seemed like a month. There were times when I was convinced the clocks had stopped working. Once I was told I had prostate cancer and my treatment plan was underway, things seemed so much easier to deal with. Its the not knowing that causes us to worry. Since that time nearly five years ago now, I have spoken to many people and they all say the waiting is or was probably for most of them the worst time.
It's funny how when we suspect cancer, our minds go into overdrive and always imagines the worst scenario. Cancer is a scary subject which years ago, people didnt like talking about. But today with nearly all cancer survival rates improving quite rapidly, I feel people are prepared to be more open about it.
But back to the waiting times, how can we make it easier? From discusions I have had, most people say keeping as busy as possible definately helps for it takes your mind off it even if only for a while. I know of one lady who copes with the waiting by cleaning and re-arranging her kitchen to within an inch of its life. She boast she has the cleanest kithen in her area. Other people say reading a good book helps. I found just trying to keep my life as near normal as possible helped me.
I would be intersted to hear other peoples way of coping for I think this forum give us the chance to help each other which is my prime reason for joining. I look forward to hearing from you. Best wishes and kind regards, Rainbow.
