I had a family member who had cancer, we were all desperate with worry and wondered what the outcome would be; after lots of hospital visits, treatment, tears and hugs and lots of positive thoughts, wishing that person well and going through the whole experience with them, not knowing what the future would hold, we always hoped it would be a happy outcome, after 18 months of treatment in Brighton and London my sister in law finally managed to get better, 4 years on we can not believe what we all went through, but clinging onto hope made us all go through the journey together, talking, laughing and crying made us all stronger to let our lives go on and not let cancer take over those days; my sister in law is much better and trying to lead a normal life, happier days are now here.

Hi Sunshine, So nice to hear a positive outcome. Well done for helping and talking to each other for so many families dont seem able to do this. It's at times like this that we need the love and support of our families more than ever before. So many dont know how to react in this painful situation and feel they cant talk to each other in an open and honest manner. Having gone through so much together, I bet you find the family bond is even stronger because of it. . Thank you for sharing your story with us; I feel sure it will give others encouragement Take care and I wish you and your family all the best for the future, Rainbow.

Hi Sunshine, I have been thinking about the title of your thread and what a good title you chose. When we are told it's cancer I'm afraid, things always look very dark. But as you have reminded me, there is always hope and we should never forget that. Hope for a sucessful outcome; hope it will not return and hope for our future. It is my hope that one day CANCER will be defeated and will only be known as a star sign just like Virgo and Scopio. I feel confident that it wont be many years, for in the past decade our scientist have made remarkable strides and survival rates for most cancers have shown great improvement. So thank you for reminding me, there is HOPE, Rainbow.

Hi everyone, I just love the title of this thread. Just a four letter word but it means so much.
It is my HOPE that new ways will be found to treat cancer. It is my HOPE that everyone with cancer will make a good recovery. It is my HOPE that families affected by cancer are brought closer together It is my HOPE that one day cancer will just be thought of as just a star sign. It is my HOPE that one day a cure will be found for cancer.
Lets all HOPE for a cancer free future.
RAINBOW.

Hi everyone, When we or someone we love are diagnosed with cancer it is so easy to lose hope. We still tend to think of the old days when a diagnosis of cancer was likened to a death sentance. But these days, figure's from Cancer Research show that 50% of people now survive cancer and they are hopeful that figure will increase to 75% in the next ten years. I see no reason why this should not be possible and there are several reasons for this. Thanks to advertising campaings by charities and the goverment regarding cancer, more people are being persueded to go to their doctors earlier, and this can only be a good thing for as we all know, the earlier the diagnosis, the better chance for a sucessful outcome. This I believe is where we lag behind European contries in that we dont go to our G.P. early enough in this country. Macmillan have also just released figures that show there are now two and a half million people living with cancer in this country; an increase of 500,000 over the past five years. A big part of this increase is I am sure due to the adverts. Because a lot of these people have been persueded to seek help early, may mean once their result filter through to the statistics, this will increase the survival rates quite quickly. Another reason for hope is a lot of promising new drugs are gradually finding their way into the market place, plus there are new types of radiotherapy machiens which can target cancer tumours much more accurately than ever before, which means less damage to surrounding tissue which has to be a good thing. Some months ago, I read a report where a research scientist stated, "It's exciting to be involved in cancer research at the moment for so much is being learnt about cancer on a day to day basis". So there is every reason for HOPE. One way we can all help is to give our time to cancer charities, and to help raise the money essential for all this research which will benifit us and our families in the long term. So please, never, ever give up HOPE, Rainbow
